AMC, Inc. is pleased to provide students the opportunity to participate in the AmericasMart 2017 Internship Program. Summer 2017- AmericasMart Internship Program dates: 05/08/2017 - 08/11/2017. All Fall and Spring Semester Internships are unpaid for college credit ONLY. However, the following departments are the only departments unpaid for college credit ONLY during the Summer Internship Program: Designer Relations, Apparel Temp Sales, Digital Marketing, Gift & Home Marketing, Fashion Merchandising, and Fashion and Apparel Marketing - . The Internship Program is designed for students to experience and manage "real-life business scenarios". The program's goal is to enhance student's business acumen and to increase their professional value in the marketplace after graduation.

Founded in 1957 by world-renowned architect and developer, John C. Portman, AmericasMart is the largest wholesale marketplace of its kind. Our sprawling 7.1 million square foot, four building campus annually draws more than 235,000 attendees from around the globe to 25+ annual markets. AmericasMart also houses extensive collections of apparel product in the men's, women's, children's and special occasion/formal/bridal categories - each on pace to make AmericasMart the next great fashion capital.

 

The internship program is offered to students who are pursuing studies in Marketing (special events & public relations), Logistics, Sales, Fashion, Hospitality and other fields. Intern positions available are as follows:

Convention Center Sales

Position Title: Convention Center Sales Intern
Supervisor: Bob Schuler
Title: Vice President
Department/Division: Convention Center Sales
Paid/Credit: Paid internship - $11hrly (40 hrs. per week)

Position Description: (List duties, responsibilities, special projects, etc.) Assist Convention Center sales managers with preparation for events. Perform special projects and account solicitation for sales team on a daily basis. Assist with follow up phone calls and database management. Perform customer service duties leading up to and during events including greeting customers, assisting with meeting set ups, and placing signage as needed. Update and maintain customer database. Attend select off-site events while representing the Atlanta Convention Center at AmericasMart

Fashion Merchandising

Position Title: Fashion Office Intern

Position Description: (List duties, responsibilities, special projects, etc.) Assist in all administrative activities: (answering phones, filing, in-going and out-going mail, typing, updating model and staff files, and faxing). Organization and inventory control of Fashion Office accessory closet, music and video library and office supplies. Assist with model's screening and audition. Assist in all areas of preparation of market week: booking and confirming staff and models, selecting composite cards for clients, go-sees for showrooms, marketing the fashion shows, taking reservations for the fashion shows, making timecards and name badges for staff, preparing kits for staff and show managers, lining up the show, tagging outfits, proofing program, getting dressing room ready, model charts, dressing show and breakdown after show. Pull and send model kits according to client requests. Assist in marketing the Fashion Office modeling agency and production company. Assist the Fashion Office and the Apparel Trade Show Departments with accounting and collections. Assist in all payroll and accounting procedures after market.

Must be proficient in Microsoft suite. Effective verbal & written communication skills are needed. Must possess an outgoing demeanor and be skillful in dealing with customers concerns.

Logistics / Operations

Position Title: Logistics / Operations Department Intern

Ensure customers receive all necessary paperwork required for such orders. Gather billing/invoice information and present it to supervisors for approval. Help coordinate loading dock appointments. Assist in the coordination of projects relating to general logistics trade show operations. Candidate will be exposed to a variety of duties related to transportation, warehousing, facility logistics and tradeshow operations.

Public / Media Relations

Will research media contacts and develop, update and maintain media databases using online research module. Will review publications for coverage, develop hit books, draft press releases and assist with publication distribution for major Markets. Will assist with photography needs, events and educating/touring media. Will assist with corporate social media initiatives as directed.

Qualifications/Requirements: (i.e., education, technical skills) Candidate should be an undergraduate (declared or undeclared) or graduate student with a degree in Journalism, Communications or Public Relations. Experience in Excel/building media lists and researching media contacts is desirable. Must be able to draft a press release and track media correspondence. Retail Services

Digital Intern

Designer Relations Intern - Gift & Home Furnishings

AmericasMart is seeking a rockstar Interior Design student (or recent graduate) to help us execute our renowned Vignette Design Exhibition. This is a perfect opportunity for an emerging design professional to get invaluable hands-on experience working with world-renowned Interior Designers, Retailers, AmericasMart Showrooms and Manufacturers. The candidate will assist in all aspects of executing the Vignette Design Exhibition, and will gain valuable experience to add to his/her portfolio and resume.
The candidate MUST be able to work during the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market July 12-19 (some lifting and minor physical labor is required to assist with installations etc).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Responsible for assisting with all aspects of the complete end-to-end planning/execution and breakdown of the Vignette Design Exhibition and program
  • Vignette program consists of 9 vignettes across the campus with product sourced from AmericasMart showrooms and curated by top local/regional design professionals.
  • Will be responsible for assisting designers in the product sourcing process. In order to effectively do so the candidate will need to quickly familiarize themselves with our showrooms/product either through our Exhibitor Catalogue Library or by visiting showrooms directly.
  • To help source products the candidate will need to lease with showrooms and manufacturers, organizing and tracking product requests, managing excel spreadsheets, collecting and organizing product photography and other tasks as needed.
  • Will work hand-in-hand with our Designer Relations Manager and collaborate closely with the marketing team and outside vendors in promotion of the program.
  • Will assist in logistics for Signature Party (a high-energy celebration to toast the participants/view their vignettes and showcase the trends and theme) on Friday July 15th in the Vignette Gallery
  • Will assist in content and promotions related to the vignette program including but not limited to assistance with social media/signage/collateral/style guide among others.
  • Other administration duties might be assigned as necessary based on the candidates skills and expertise.
